Hootle

A little owl that keeps your Mac awake. While its eyes are open, your Mac won't sleep, dim or lock.

How it works

One click on, one click off

Off → on

Click the owl

It hops, opens its eyes and waves hello. Your Mac now stays awake for as long as you need.

On → off

Click it again

Turn it off now, or pick a timer from 15 minutes to 4 hours. When time's up, the owl falls asleep.

Away too long

It checks in

If it's been on for 2 hours and nobody has touched the Mac for 10 minutes, it hoots softly and asks if anyone's there.

Why Hootle

Small, quiet and always honest about its state

No sleep, no dimming, no lock

Downloads, presentations, long builds and video calls keep going without the screen going dark.

You can tell at a glance

Eyes open and blinking means awake. Eyes closed with floating z's means your Mac is back to normal.

Messages that stay out of the way

A short note and a tiny hoot when it turns on or off. It never steals focus from what you're doing.

Private by design

No account, no tracking, no network connections. Hootle doesn't collect anything. Privacy policy
